The return of the Osprey, in The Outer Banks
At last the warmth of springs returned-a season eagerly awaited along the North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Whether it’s the rhythm of the waves, the laid-back beach culture or simply the chance to unwind by the beach with family and friends, this coastal haven offers something for everyone. Whatever draws you to our barrier islands, this beautiful sanctuary never fails to deliver an unforgettable vibe.
And, the return of spring brings one of its most iconic visitors-the osprey. The female returns first, often returning to the same nest she has used year after year. This March, she did arrive a bit early, to secure her nest and location, giving herself a head start on the season-an advantage that can lead to earlier egg hatching and ultimately a healthier offspring.
After her first fishing trip, a successful one at that, she was greeted with an unexpected rival, the bald eagle. The eagle forced her to surrender her hard earned meal, but not without a fierce struggle. Life on the Outer Bank isn’t without its challenges.
